New Grads “ROCK”: A New UTCVM Tradition
The University of Tennessee is home to a massive rock. No one would have ever known the popularity and tradition to come when a huge rock was unearthed back in the 1960’s. The "Rock" quickly "became a canvas" for student messages. For years the university sandblasted away the messages but eventually deferred to students’ artistic endeavors. Now dubbed "The Rock," this noted UT landmark is located on Volunteer Boulevard just down campus from UTCVM. While searching for camaraderie and celebratory fun we unearthed our own tradition! This May on the Monday before graduation Dean Jim Thompson and Assistant Director of Alumni Relations Megan McMurray, hosted the Class of 2010 at "The Rock." Graduating students got the opportunity to make their mark as alumni of our college and spray paint a message on the famed rock are now looking forward to each graduating class joining in on the tradition prior to graduation. We knew they were talented at sutures, but had no idea about their artistic ability. Class of 2010 we are proud of your accomplishments, congratulations on this milestone!
