Laboratory for Comparative Research in Anesthesia (LCRA)

The LCRA located at the University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine, is maintained by the anesthesia faculty, residents, and technical staff. The main areas of research have focused on determination of the sparing effects of injectable anesthetics and analgesics on inhalational anesthetics, development of sustained release formulations of analgesics, and techniques to evaluate analgesia in animals.

Another purpose of the laboratory is to provide support for residents in veterinary anesthesia, surgery, and critical care in completion of research projects resulting in publication in a peer-reviewed journal, as required by the American Colleges of Veterinary Anesthesiologists, Surgery, and Critical Care.

Collaborative research with other research and academic centers, such as College of Pharmacy at the University of Tennessee in Memphis and the Department of Anesthesiology at the UT Medical center in Knoxville, is another goal of the laboratory, and several collaborative projects have been completed and more are in progress.
