This study is supported by a grant from the Dalmatian Club of America Foundation (http://www.dcaf.org/).

Urate stones occur commonly in Dalmatians because of their unique metabolism of uric acid. All Dalmatians are at risk for forming urate stones, yet only a small percentage actually form stones. Urate stones are difficult to find because they are not typically visible on x-rays and management of urate stones can be tricky. Some urate stones can be dissolved medically utilizing a special diet and giving a drug called allopurinol; while others must be removed surgically. Prevention of urate stones involve feeding a special diet and sometimes administering allopurinol. Success in managing urate stones is variable.

We are performing a 2-part study.

Thank you for any help that you can provide.
