Learning to Save Lives: Special Announcement

Learning to Save Lives is a newspaper-based curriculum that enhances basic skills and fosters the humane treatment of animals. It presents newspaper activities for various disciplines that motivate students to read the newspaper, develop service projects and become community-minded citizens. The Learning to Save Lives workshops and curriculum materials are free to area teachers. Lessons and activities are presented during teacher workshops and are aligned with state objectives.

The News Sentinel’s Newspaper in Education (NIE) program has about 775 participating teachers. About 500 of the participating teachers are corporate sponsored teachers. These teachers cannot afford to pay for classroom sets of newspapers and need area businesses to sponsor their papers. The News Sentinel solicits businesses to provide sponsorship dollars to cover their newspapers. To recognize businesses that provide sponsorships, the News Sentinel runs recognition ads in the paper thanking them for their support of education.

If you are aware of a business or corporation that might be willing to sponsor a teacher, please contact Alice Dollar at 865-342-6113 or download this form. The lowest sponsorship level is $300.
