TEVRO -- HORSE DONATIONS
(Tennessee Equine Veterinary Research Organization)
We are asking for your help in locating potential donation animals for two ongoing research projects at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine.
The object of our first research project is to determine the effect of diet in the formation of gastric ulcers in horses. Up to 90% of performance horses are affected by gastric ulcers. This is a serious disease which often causes colic, loss of performance and in some cases, gastric rupture, which can result in death. We hope that this study will help to elucidate the mechanism of ulcer formation, resulting in the ability to manipulate diet in order to minimize ulcerogenic potential.
NO painful procedures or surgery will be performed. Rather, these horses will be humanely euthanized and the tissues will be harvested.
If you are aware of any such horses, please contact us at the address below. We thank you very much in advance for your assistance.
