UTCVM Neoplastic Surgery

Horses suffering from sarcoids and other forms of neoplasia (cancer), both malignant and benign, are treated frequently at the University of Tennessee. Our faculty is experienced in the use of advanced treatments, including CO2-laser, Ho-YAG laser, and cryotherapy to treat horses suffering from neoplasia. Treatment with chemotherapeutic drugs, such as cisplatin, available in beads for implantation and in solution for injection, and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), available in cream for topical application and in solution for injection, is also available. Horses with neoplasia of the external genitalia and periocular region are frequently treated with a high incidence of success by excision of the neoplasm or with radiation therapy.
