Cardiology
(865) 974-8387
Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Cardiology service is a part of the internal medicine section. The service is supervised by a boarded cardiologist along with residents or interns. A cardiologist is available to either directly manage all cardiology cases or for consultation for cases that are admitted through other services.
Workup on cardiology cases includes:
- electrocardiograms
- thoracic radiographs
- echocardiography with color flow Doppler when needed
The occasional patient requires cardiac catheterization to evaluate internal pressures and structures of the heart. Many of the congenital cardiac defects, such as patent ductus arteriosis and pulmonic stenosis are routinely corrected surgically.
The cardiology service has an ongoing research program evaluating heart and cardiovascular disease.
