.

Through the efforts of individual horse owners, horse clubs, and the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences has been able to purchase the Anderson Rescue and Rehabilitation Sling for horses.

The campaign to raise funding for the acquisition of the sling was called the "Shadow Fund" in memory of a horse who died because this type of equipment was not available to rescue her.

The College of Veterinary Medicine and the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences wish to thank

  • The Tennessee Horse Council
  • The East Tennessee Horse Owners Prepared for Emergencies (HOPE) Organization

for promoting the Shadow Fund. More importantly, we would like to thank all the donors who contributed to the campaign. Many of the donors were children's horse clubs who made the purchase of the sling a club project. -- a true grassroots effort.

.

Special thanks to the "Big Orange Bash" a model horse show held for the first time in Knoxville, Tennessee. The raised over $1,300 for the fund.

The Anderson Sling will be housed in the Large Animal Veterinary Teaching Hospital at The University of Tennessee. The sling will be available for the rescue of horses from inaccessible places. The sling will also be utilized in the hospital for the rehabilitation of horses who cannot stand under their own power because of disease.

The human - animal bond that has occurred over the years has provided significant comfort and satisfaction to people and animals. The protection, health, and well being of these animals has been the charge of many individuals and professions, including veterinary medicine.
