PATHOBIOLOGY RESIDENCY PROGRAMS
RESIDENCY IN VETERINARY CLINICAL PATHOLOGY
The Department of Pathobiology, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Tennessee, has a residency position open in 2008 (starting date July 1, 2008). The application deadline for this position is December 1, 2007.
Our residency program is designed to fulfill training requirements and eligibility for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. Training will emphasize diagnostic cytology, hematology, and clinical chemistry. Opportunities are also readily available for training in surgical biopsy and general pathology, and for involvement in research. The resident will participate in diagnostic service, teaching of veterinary students, journal clubs, and seminars, and will be encouraged to attend and present at national meetings and write manuscripts for publication. The Department of Pathobiology currently has three boarded clinical pathologists and six anatomic pathologists. Our diagnostic service is supported by a diverse case load with submissions from within the teaching hospital and from outside practices, a well-equipped laboratory, and ancillary resources including in-house Immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry. In addition to faculty pathologists, our department has basic research faculty with programs in cancer biology, cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and virology (funding sources include NIH, Phillip Morris Foundation, and National Science Foundation).
Candidates for the position must have a DVM or equivalent degree from an AVMA-recognized institution. An internship or practice experience is desirable. The residency has a starting salary of $25,040 and comes with an available medical benefits package. The salary will increase to $28,000 in the 3rd year of the program. The appointment is renewable on an annual basis (three years total), assuming satisfactory performance.
