Feline Coronavirus PCR

We are now offering PCR detection of Feline Coronvirus (FCoV) in a variety of samples. This assay is not specific for the virus of FIP. However, this test can be used to detect virus shedding (feces), or presence of FCoV systemically which does correlate with FIP (plasma, ascites, fresh tissue). This test is performed once weekly.

Canine Distemper PCR

The Clinical Virology Laboratory is now offering a PCR detection assay for canine distemper. This assay can be done on swabs from affected sites (e.g.conjunctiva, nasal, etc.), whole blood (for viremia, best if done early in infection) and urine (good for late infection, including neurologic disease). Because of the length of shedding of the virus (even very low levels are detectable by PCR) in urine, it appears to be the best sample for neurologic disease.
The cost is $40, and samples should be shipped overnight on cold pack.
