Toddler's face mauled in savage dog attack

EXPERTS have called for caution around all dogs after a girl, 3, was viciously mauled by a dog yesterday, leaving her with serious facial injuries. The toddler was playing with several other children in front of a marina when she was attacked by a dog near Moama on the New South Wales-Victorian border on Sunday afternoon, police said. A witness pulled the dog away from the child but she suffered serious facial injuries, police said. Australian Veterinary Association president Mark Lawrie said children should never be left alone or unsupervised around a dog, not matter how well-behaved it is normally. ... (more)

 

7-Year-Old Airlifted After Attack by Dog

LAKELAND | A 7-year-old girl was airlifted to a Tampa General Hospital after her family's dog attacked her at her Lakeland home Monday afternoon. Keira Mastrosimoe received bites that left a bone-deep wound about 3 inches wide and 5 inches long on her leg, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Keira had been playing on a swing set outside the home when the dog, named Sam, grabbed her leg, pulled her off the swing and dragged her across the yard, sheriff's reports said. Metro Student Attacked By Dogs While Walking To School
OKLAHOMA CITY -- A third-grader was attacked by dogs as he walked to school Thursday morning.

Neighbors said the dogs came out from a house that a family had just moved out of on Wednesday. The neighbors said that the dogs were left behind by the family. Here are the facts: According to the Journal of the American Medical Association there are almost 800,000 dog bites each year. One out of every six are serious enough to require medical attention. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the odds that a dog bite victim will be a child are 3 to 1. Severe injuries from dog bites are highest for children ages 5 to 9 years of age. Three quarters of dogs involved in bite incidents belong to the victims family or friend. The majority of dog attacks (61%) happen at home or in a familiar place. These are indeed sobering statistics that demonstrate dog bites are a serious health risk to children in particular. 3-year-old attacked by dog in Polk County

A 3-year-old resident of Polk County was airlifted to St. Johns Hospital after a dog attack, said Dwaine Bourke, the fire district chief of Walnut Grove. Bourke said around 9:30 this morning the girls aunt had been feeding the dog and was getting ready to feed the cat; when she turned around the dog was biting the girl. The child suffered bites on the top of her head and over her right eye.
