young boy with habit dog H.A.B.I.T. is a community group of volunteers working together to explore the circumstances and consequences of the human-animal bond and to promote this valuable bond between people and animals. H.A.B.I.T. is comprised of representatives from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, volunteers from the community, and private veterinary practitioners.

Doors open at 5:30 for registration, meeting begins at 6 p.m.

H.A.B.I.T. is a nonprofit, group of volunteers working together to promote the bond between people and animals. As a program of The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, H.A.B.I.T. sponsors animal-assisted therapy programs for those of all ages in a variety of settings such as nursing and retirement homes, assisted living centers, hospitals, physical rehabilitation centers, and area schools.

  DO NOT BRING YOUR PET- this meeting is for humans only
For liability purposes, attendance is required before a person can become a H.A.B.I.T. volunteer and before a facility can partner with H.A.B.I.T.  Please make every effort to attend this meeting. Attendance is encouraged even if you are just interested in knowing more about H.A.B.I.T.  Meetings are held quarterly.
Attendance does not imply any obligations.

Barbeque, Bidding, and Bluegrass: An Evening of Good Behavior with HABIt

Dr. Julie Albright, PetSafe Char in Small Animal Behavioral Research at UT's College of Veterinary Medicine will lead a discussion on how to address troubling pet behaviors, followed by a Q & A with the audience. Support HABIT with some spirited bidding in a live and silent auction, and enjoy a barbeque dinner and Bluegrass music from local musicians, including Hugh McCampbell, DVM, a large animal vet from Monroe Co.

From 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., enjoy a complimentary tour of the Knoxville Museum of Art, and s...tart the bidding in our Silent Auction. Take the opportunity to meet HABIT volunteers and their dogs on the lawn; learn what great things these volunteers and their pets are doing in your communty.

At 5 p.m., a barbeque dinner provided by Fats Barbeque will be provided and continue to track your items in the Silent Auction while you enjoy some relaxing Bluegrass music.

At 5:20 we'll start our program; come with your questions about your pets' behavior, and Dr. Albright and her training partner Nelle Wyatt can offer direction in how to bring peace to your home.

At 6:00 we'll demonstrate some activities to keep your dog mentally and physically healthy and happy.

At 6:30, Hugh McCampbell will tell stories along with banjo interludes.

At 6:40, the evening wraps up with a live auction called by Bear Stephenson, and finding out who won in the Silent Auction.

All proceeds of this event will go to support HABIT programs in our East TN
