H.A.B.I.T. is a nonprofit, group of volunteers working together to promote the bond between people and animals. As a program of The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, H.A.B.I.T. sponsors animal-assisted therapy programs for those of all ages in a variety of settings such as nursing and retirement homes, assisted living centers, hospitals, physical rehabilitation centers, and area schools.
If you’d be interested in volunteering with your dog, cat or rabbit, attend to learn what we’re looking for in pet partners.  If you represent a facility interested in receiving pet visits, attendance at a meeting is a required step in the application process.
DO NOT BRING YOUR PET- this meeting is for humans only
For liability purposes, attendance is required before a person can become a H.A.B.I.T. volunteer and before a facility can partner with H.A.B.I.T.  Please make every effort to attend this meeting. Attendance is encouraged even if you are just interested in knowing more about H.A.B.I.T.  Meetings are held quarterly.
Attendance does not imply any obligations and any interested persons are welcome. There is no cost to attend this meeting. Please contact Ruth Sapp, East TN H.A.B.I.T. Program Coordinator at habit-et@utk.edu or (865) 974-5633; seating is limited, so please call or email if attending.
Inclement Weather Plans: If Washington Co. Schools are closed due to snow on March 26 the HABIT meeting will be postponed. If school has not been canceled but inclement weather is expected to begin prior to 6 p.m. in either the Knoxville or Johnson City area, a decision will be made by 1 p.m. on March 26 on the status of the HABIT Information Meeting. Please call the HABIT office at (865) 974-5633 for information on possible postponement.
