HALT DOGS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION
DESCRIPTION
of HALT 2007 DOGS
HALT is
Humans and Animals Learning Together, a non-profit program supported by
the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. Through a
series of classes, a canine obedience instructor helps adolescent
student trainers teach basic obedience commands to dogs.
Suitable
dogs are selected from a local animal shelter and medically and
behaviorally screened. They are given a standard series of
inoculations, neutered or spayed, and boarded at the class site.
Student
trainers are adolescents from residential centers for treatment of
substance abuse, behavioral or alienation problems. They are selected
by the staff of their agency and are transported to the class site for
the classes.
The 2007
HALT class includes several dogs available for adoption. HALT dogs have
all:
-
been spayed or neutered
-
received appropriate shots
& heartworm preventative -
have
been microchipped -
completed
basic obedience training
An
$100 adoption fee is required which will go towards the support future
