Tennessee Veterinary Graduate Receives Award
February 7, 2007
KNOXVILLE – Dr. Jeremy Whitman has received the University of Tennessee
College of Veterinary Medicine’s 2007 First Decade Achievement Award. Whitman, a
2002 graduate of the college, is an associate veterinarian at Equine Medical
Associates in Lexington, Kentucky. After graduating from veterinary college, he
practiced at the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, one of the country’s premier Quarter
Horse facilities.
Whitman says his entire life he wanted to be a veterinarian and had "tunnel
vision" for working with large animals. "I appreciate all the great mentors I
had at UT. They gave me the opportunity to go places and do things I never
thought would have been possible," Whitman says. "My family is proud, and I’m
thankful to be part of the veterinary profession which continues to make great
strides in advancing healthcare for animals." He is quick to say the support of
his family, especially from wife Brandi, has helped him succeed. He also thanks
Dr. Mike Harry, a veterinarian in Fayettville, for his support.
Whitman, who grew up in Henderson, Tennessee, lives in Lexington with his
wife and two children, three-year old Madalynn and four-month old Jack.
One of 28 veterinary colleges in the United States, the UT College of
Veterinary Medicine educates students in the art and science of veterinary
medicine and related biomedical sciences, promotes scientific research and
enhances human and animal well-being. The college is the winner of the 2006
Commitment Award from the Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence.
