Dog Bite Prevention: Resources for Parents and Children
This year's National Dog Bite Prevention Week was celebrated May 15-21. Nearly five million dog bites happen every year.
In an effort to reduce those numbers, UTCVM (along with big, furry, lovable Rufus) works to teach children how to behave around dogs. Dr. Michael Sims, Department of Comparative Medicine Professor, was recently quoted in a blog entry by the Pedigree Foundation about the college's work. The college just distributed nearly 5,000 DVDs to first graders in Knox County. Click here to read a news release about the inaugural distribution in 2009 and here for a newspaper story covering the event.
