Free Reptile Care Seminar for the Public
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. How do you know if your snake is sick or your gecko is getting enough calcium? Is your turtle getting enough sunlight? To answer these questions and more, PAWSitive Impact, a community service-based student club at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine (UTCVM), is hosting a seminar about reptile care as part of its Lets Talk About series.
Many medical problems seen in pet reptiles are caused by improper husbandry. Inadequate diets and inappropriate living conditions can weaken the immune system and make reptiles susceptible to disease.
Dr. Juergen Schumacher, whose interest includes emergency and critical care medicine of non-domestic animals, will speak about proper reptile care and common medical problems faced when caring for reptiles. Schumacher, professor and Director of Avian and Zoological Medicine at UTCVM, is board-certified in zoological medicine.
The seminar, which is free and open to the public, is scheduled Monday, October 19. The discussion begins at 7:00 p.m. and will be held in room 156 of the Plant Biotech building on the agricultural campus. The audience will have an opportunity to ask questions. Call 865-974-7377 or email for more information.
