Society for Comparative Endocrinology Offers Research Award in Professor's Memory
The Society for Comparative Endocrinology (SCE) has established the Jack Oliver Graduate Research Award. Dr. Oliver, who passed away in 2011, was an original faculty member at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Oliver coordinated and taught the veterinary pharmacology courses and developed and directed the Clinical Endocrinology Service, nurturing it into the veterinary medical center's busiest diagnostic laboratory that receives samples from around the world.
Dr. Jim Thompson, UTCVM dean, says the example Dr. Oliver set for others in leadership, teamwork and service was remarkable. "At UT, Jack will be always remembered as a service-oriented, caring professional expert who tirelessly worked to help others," said Dr. Thompson. "He assisted everyone from clinicians, to technicians, to students; the contacts he made each day shaped the image of comparative endocrinology and the veterinary profession." He added the college is thankful to the SCE board members and representatives for extolling this honor in Dr. Oliver's memory.
