Yorkie Angel Patrol to Raffle Hairamic

The Yorkie Angel Patrol (YAP), a non-profit organization comprised of people concerned with diseases that primarily affect toy dog breeds, raises money for the Angel Fund and the Fancy Fund at the UT College of Veterinary Medicine (UTCVM).  The Angel Fund provides resources for the study and treatment of liver shunts, a serious and sometimes fatal medical condition in dogs; the Fancy Fund provides resources for the study and treatment of collapsing trachea in small breed dogs. Tracheal collapse is a progressive, chronic, debilitating disease that occurs primarily in middle-aged toy breed dogs.

As part of its fund-raising efforts, YAP is holding a raffle for a hairamic (handmade, life-sized ceramic Yorkshire Terrier covered in authentic hair) of CEDE Higgens, an award winning dog in the 1970's. Dr. Karen Tobias, a surgeon at the veterinary college, donated the hairamic. All proceeds will benefit the UTCVM Angel Fund.  The raffle ends May 30, 2009. Visit YAP's site for more information.
