F.A.Q.s (Frequently Asked Questions)
About attending the annual UTCVM Open House event
Who may attend? The annual event is open to the general public and is a great activity for the entire family. Food is available on site.
May our large group attend? For large groups, we request chaperones of 1 adult for every 10 children. Please call in advance with the name of your group, the number in attendance and estimated time of arrival so we may provide you with an enjoyable experience. We request the following information when you call, the names of the group, the contact person with email address and cell phone number, and estimated time of arrival. Please phone (865)974-0989 by April 10.
How much time should we plan to spend for the Open House Tour?
From start to finish the self-guided tour can take between 2 to 2.5 hours if you stop at every point along the way.
We have people visiting with special needs; will you have wheelchairs available in case they get tired? Since we are an animal hospital, we do not have access to human-assistive devices. Handicap parking is available.
May we bring our pets? No. We request for the safety of your pets and our patients that you do not bring your pets.
Where do we park when we arrive on the agricultural campus at the University? When you arrive on the agricultural campus, follow the signs. Our students, wearing brightly colored shirts, will be stationed along the road and will assist you with directions on-site. Please refer to the tour map at the website: www.vet.utk.edu/openhouse/map.php
Will there be maps and listing of special events as handouts? In the spirit of “Going GREEN”, signs will be posted at various places along the self-guided tour showing locations and event times. Students wearing an “ASK me” button will be along the route to direct you to the next exhibit and to answer your questions.
What kind of strange animals will I see? We plan to have reptiles, parrots and small mammal to view, but for the truly exotic, plan a visit to our nearby Knoxville Zoo. Their website is: www.knoxvillezoo.org
Can we adopt animals from rescue groups at the UT Open House? No. Open House is a great place to ask questions and learn about different kinds of animals and what animal may fit in well with your family.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR VISIT!
