Making Professionalism Personal:
What does professionalism mean to me?
Professional behavior is expected from individuals in
veterinary careers and from all those working in a
professional organization such as the veterinary college.
Although we each may have a different understanding of what the term “professionalism” means, there are some common standards reflected in highly professional
behavior. Professionalism week is designed to bring
discussions of professionalism into our daily work lives and
to stimulate individual reflection on how one contributes to a professional atmosphere through work, language and action. With a working definition of professionalism, and an internalized commitment to professional behavior, we also hope that individuals will learn how to create positive, constructive solutions when confronted with behavior that fails to meet these standards.
