Doctoral Research

Jan Yorke

Dissertation Research
My research focuses on equine assisted interventions with traumatized children, looking at the neurobiological role these interventions play in reducing stress.

Systematic Review
Over the past decade a number scholars have researched and theorized about the link between human-animal violence and human-human violence, commonly identified as the 'LINK' (Ascione, Arluke, Lockwood, etc). Research has been inconclusive about the strength of this association yet despite this, many conferences and social policy initiatives in criminal justice, family & child welfare as well as animal welfare have assumed there is a link. There is no question that the relationship between these two entities is complex and to date no systematic review has been completed looking at the LINK. Veterinary Social Work has a diverse team of scholars who have registered a review of the literature on the LINK with the Campbell Collaboration with the goal of completing a rigorous, exhaustive review of the international literature related to the relationship between human-animal violence and human-human violence.
