Frequently Asked Questions

  1. I am a current high school senior, am I eligible to participate in the Veterinary Summer Experience Program?

    Answer: Yes

  2. I have another activity (vacation, camp, etc.) scheduled during the 8 weeks of the Veterinary Summer Experience Program, am I still eligible to participate?

Answer: No. Participants must commit to full time employment (40 hours per week) during the 8 weeks of the program. Students who cannot fulfill the requirement due to other obligations should not apply.

  3. Is there a cost to participate in the Veterinary Summer Experience Program?

Answer: No. Students selected to participate in the Veterinary Summer Experience Program will receive a stipend for their participation. Students will receive approximately four biweekly pay checks or direct deposits. The rate of hourly compensation will be at least minimum wage.

  4. I already work with a veterinarian, am I still required to list three potential internship sites?

Answer: If veterinarian(s) where you currently work will agree to serve as your internship host(s), you can list only the name of the veterinarian(s) and clinic where you work. If that arrangement cannot be completed, you will be asked to help identify alternative internship sites.

  5. How many students will be selected to participate in this year's Veterinary Summer Experience Program?

  6. Answer: We will select twelve (12) program participants. Last year we received over 100 applications for eight (8) positions.
