| There are five small animal board-certified surgeons and three surgery residents associated with the Small Animal Clinic of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital; additional support is provided by veterinary technicians.
Three of our faculty members are involved with all aspects of soft tissue surgery. These surgeons have special interests in the areas of:
- cardiothoracic and vascular surgery
- gastrointestinal surgery
- neurosurgery
- portosystemic shunt disease
- reconstructive surgery
- trauma surgery
Surgical support is provided to the oncology and medical services, and assistance is the radiation oncologist with brachytherapy implants. The majority of surgical cases are referrals from area practitioners. Instruction is provided to students in the DVM program for general surgical procedures while residents are trained in the more advanced procedures.
