Heartworm Prevention Survey
There has been a great deal of new information accumulated in recent years, both from new research and the practical experience of veterinarians and dog owners, on how to prevent heartworm infection in dogs. This survey is designed to provide information about the current heartworm prevention methods used by owners/trainers of field trial dogs. Results of this study will identify areas of heartworm prevention that can be addressed by veterinarians and dog owner/trainers in order to improve methods of heartworm prevention. For the success of this project, we need to have input from dog owner/trainers who are satisfied with their heartworm control program as well as from those who are not satisfied. Therefore, regardless of your experience with heartworm prevention, your participation in this study is important. The results of this study may be submitted for publication in a veterinary journal and communicated back to you through your association. Our goal is to provide information that will lead to better means of heartworm prevention.
The information that you provide will remain completely confidential. The only personnel that will have access to your completed questionnaire are the four investigators affiliated with the Department of Comparative Medicine, University of Tennessee. The questionnaire that you fill out will be analyzed and the results summarized in a way that will prevent anyone else from knowing whether you participated in the study, or anything about your heartworm prevention program or kennel. At the end of the study all survey questionnaires will be destroyed.
