Dog-friendly Event Honors Memory of Local Girl

Event is a fundraiser for veterinary scholarship and other animal-friendly activities in Knoxville.

Abby Gibson Veterinary Medicine Scholarship Endowment in memory of young Knoxville Tennessee girl who dreamed of being a veterinarian

(May 2014   Knoxville, TN) -- Abby Gibson loved animals--especially horses.  This caring 10-year old brought love and joy into every life--human and animal--she touched. Abby dreamed of one day going to UT College of Veterinary Medicine and becoming an animal doc. In the summer of 2010, Abby died from injuries received in a horseback riding accident.

To embrace her dreams, Abbys mother, Jennifer Gibson Boyle, created the Abby Gibson Veterinary Medicine Scholarship Endowment at UTCVM. To help raise funds for the endowment, Jennifer organized the Walk and Wag Dog Walk, a dog friendly family event held in Abby's memory. Proceeds from the third annual event will also benefit Humans and Animals Learning Together, Human Animal Bond in Tennessee, and the Knoxville Zoo's ZooFund for kids.

The walk took place June 7, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. at Victor Ashe Park in Knoxville.  Visit for details.
